From the Heart: From the Director
Little things can become big things. Growth potential is one of the intriguing themes of history. Yet, not all little things with this potential grow large, even when forces are hard at work to make growth happen.
Why is this? In his fascinating book on “social epidemics,” The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell artfully identifies that you need the right people, the right message, and the right context before you can expect exponential growth.
To an extent, this phenomenon can be seen in what has happened at the Home School Foundation. Families with a passion for homeschooling (the right people) hear of the compelling needs of other homeschoolers (the right message) and give generously to meet these needs through the Foundation (the right context). As a result, the Foundation has grown from helping a handful of families in 1999 to helping almost a thousand families in 2008.
Of course, there is another, often unseen, force at work—the hand of God. Sometimes through the miraculous, sometimes through everyday, natural transactions, God makes the little big.
Thank you to so many of you who have invested in small and large ways in the Foundation. God has used your gifts to bless many families in ways that have led to growth in a most significant arena—their faith!
