HSF, the charitable arm of HSLDA, is dedicated to finding and helping homeschooling families in need continue in their conviction to homeschool. We even reach internationally to help homeschool groups or families facing legal pressure.
Recently, HSF partnered with HSLDA to help a family in Germany facing legal trouble. This family wrote back saying:
It is hard to put in words the panic you feel when you get a letter from the courts telling you that you are in danger of loosing your children to the State. When we started homeschooling we knew that this was a possibility, but one tends to think ‘We may just fall through the cracks and not get noticed.’ For a while it was like that and we thought we had slipped through.
When we did get the letter from the courts I was in utter panic. Unless you are a lawyer, you have no idea what is going to happen, how far the system will go, and how fast will it all go. It is extremely hard to judge the situation and, of course, you don’t have many people you can trust.
When a good friend put us in touch with HSLDA it felt like a shelter during a tornado. Their lawyer took our phone calls, even though he was on vacation with his family! He took the time to talk to my husband as well as myself, and referred us to a German lawyer. We called him several times over a period of about two weeks and he was always there for our worries and questions.
It was amazing having somebody help when we were in dire straits and didn’t know how to defend ourselves.
